How pharmaceuticals affect the macromolecular composition of mussels has been published with Spring Nature in Scientific Reports
In this study for the first time the FTIRI Imaging (FTIRI) technique has been applied to characterize the chemical building blocks of digestive glands of mussels, alterations and resilience of macromolecular composition, after an exposure to the antiepileptic carbamazepine, the antihypertensive valsartan and their mixture. The changes in macromolecular features caused by tested pharmaceuticals reflected the modulation of specific molecular and biochemical pathways, supporting our knowledge on mechanisms of action of such molecules.
