The bioaccumulation of two pharmaceuticals in mussels and their biological effects at controlled conditions were characterized.
One of the first experiments carried out during the first year of the PHARMASEA project involved the mussels exposure to two different pharmaceuticals (one antidepressant and one lipid regulator) at controlled conditions for 3 weeks, including an additional week as depuration period. Bioaccumulation and the biological effects were characterized by IEO-CSIC research team in collaboration with UNIVPM research team, particularly through the stage of the PhD student María del Mar García Pimentel at the Polytechnic University of Marche (Ancona, Italy).
